Crowdsourced Song Of The Day 3/11/2013: Hound Dog Taylor & The HouseRockers - "Give Me Back My Wig"

Today's CSOTD comes to us courtesy of Diana J. Brodie, who knows some Jack. Hound Dog Taylor (1915-1975) came from Chicago, and had six fingers on his fret hand. He is known for the timeless quote, "When I die, they’ll say he couldn’t play shit, but he sure made it sound good." "Give Me Back My Wig" is a blues standard that's been covered by many, and comes from his eponymous debut album from 1971, four years before he died. The album contains some of blues music's most savage slide guitar playing ever. It was the first album put out by Alligator Records, a label that was in fact created so that the proprietor could release Taylor's work in the first place. They're still very much around. The song itself is about retrieving one's toupee. I been there. Thanks, Diana!
