Song Of The Day 5/12/2013: Tina Turner - "Whole Lotta Love"

Quarterly Covers Report: Tina Turner's moderately discofied cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" came from her 1975 album Acid Queen, named after her character in the film version of the Who's Tommy. Side one had two Who covers, two Stones covers, and this. The second side contained a bunch of Ike Turner songs. Acid Queen was the last album that featured anything resembling a collaboration between Tina and Ike, as she escaped from and divorced him the following year, and Ike developed a deep and meaningful relationship with cocaine. I love the electric piano in this. Reminds me of Deodato's "Also Sprach Zarathustra," also a cover, and one of my favorite instrumentals of the '70s.

Anyway, welcome to the Quarterly Covers Report. We're doing this four times each year, for one week each. We're always open for suggestions, blah blah blah, Dilbert joke.
