Song Of The Day 5/21/2014: Connie Francis - "He's Just a Scientist"

It's 2014, thirteen years after HAL 9000 had to be put down, and antagonism against scientists is at unreasonable highs. Cultural acceptance of scientific progress was better in the 1970's, for Chrissakes. I don't know why this is happening. Maybe your religion passed its expected apocalypse date and you're trying to hasten its arrival by shouting down anybody with facts. Maybe you break out into a rash when you see javascript. Maybe you profess that something can't be true unless it's easily understood without all those equations and data and carbon dating and flowcharts and empirical information.* Maybe your were traumatized by Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) in Spaceballs and have developed an instantaneous reaction against anything remotely scientific, preferring the lurid mythology symbolized by the alter-ego Vinz Clortho the Keymaster (Rick Moranis) in Ghostbusters. Whatever it is, please stop trying to make my kids stupid by insisting that scientists can't be true because a cranky, passive-aggressive vapor with dualistic tendencies in the area of anger management gets offended whenever a dinosaur femur gets dug up outside Topeka.

*Fun fact: Remember when I was editing books last year? Well, maybe you don't, but I did. One of them was a religious-themed memoir (I needed money) by a person espousing this very theory: Evolution can't be true because you have to spend time studying it. Whereas "Big Guy waves his hand and boom, there's the Milky Way" doesn't require a lot of subheadings or footnotes, so it must be true. I remain unpaid for this job, so I guess dude doesn't get all cuddly with math either.
